Chairman Jack Conway honors speaker Peter Forman at the Conway Mid-Year Awards breakfast at the Plymouth Radisson.

Plymouth – The message to Jack Conway Realtors agents and managers at their recent Mid-Year Awards breakfast was loud and clear – the South Shore and Conway Country is going to be one of the hottest areas of growth over the next decade.

That prediction was delivered by Peter Forman, president of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, to a roomful of more than 250 members of the Conway Company at the Plymouth Radisson. They heard Forman, a former state politician, sheriff and aide to the governor, describe their role in helping the region reach its potential.

“Conway Country has defined the South Shore and its economy for the last 20 to 30 years,” said Forman. “But that economy is now changing. And the outlook is very promising. When you sell that house, you need to sell the South Shore as a growing region.”

Forman was the main speaker at the annual Mid-Year Awards breakfast at which all 40 Conway offices top listers and sellers for the first six months were recognized. In addition, Conway-Mattapoisett agent Beth Van der Veer (sales) and Conway-South Boston agent Mike Foley (listings) were recognized as being the tops companywide.

“Our agents are the engine that drives this company, and we know how important they are,” said President Dick Cahill as he handed out the awards.

Chairman Jack Conway also delivered a special Conway Excellence Award to Massasoit Community College Professor Lois Martin, a recent winner of the Math Educator of the Year Award. Conway lauded Martin for her dedication to teaching a subject which is often difficult, but critical in this economy.

“I am so proud of our whole department, we are all about teaching at Massasoit,” said Martin, a longtime Kingston resident. “I just want to convey my love for the beauty of math to my students, and watch them succeed.”

The event was opened with Conway-Scituate agent Ed Covell leading the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Covell is the newly-installed commander of the Scituate American Legion Post 144.

Norwell — Jack Conway Realtors managers recently welcomed Pam O’Connor, the CEO and president of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, to their company headquarters for a talk about the current state of the real estate market.

“Just like there is no national weather forecast, there is no national forecast for real estate,” said O’Connor. “But I can tell you in Conway Country, it’s not quite as difficult as some places in other parts of the country.”

O’Connor detailed what she said is a “migration back to the independent local brands” when it comes to choosing a realtor. And she said her data is, “Showing a cleansing of the ranks when it comes to realtors. The cream is rising to the top, and that is not a bad thing.”

The Leading Real Estate Companies of the World (LeadingRE) network is comprised of nearly 700 of the top locally-branded companies in the country, with 5,500 offices and annual homes sales of $370 billion in 2007, more than any national franchise brand.  The organization also has members in 38 countries abroad. Conway is a member of LeadingRE and O’Connor had high praise for the way the company is reacting to the market.

“We are so proud to be a member of LeadingRE,” said company Chairman Jack Conway. “Like we’ve been hearing, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and we are already seeing that in parts of our market.”

Everyone loves a good yard sale, and nowhere are they more popular than on the Cape. With thousands of tourists driving around the area on any given summer weekend, touring the local sales is a hobby for some, but a bargain hunt for most.

“We’ve done it for a few years now, and it really seems to be popular,” said Conway-Wareham manager Chris D’Anna. “People are on the lookout for them, so with a little a notice, you are sure to get a crowd.”

The folks at Conway-Wareham drew enough of a crowd to make a $500 profit from their offerings. The money was split, with half going to the Boys and Girls Club summer program, and the other half to benefit the always popular Onset Fireworks Committee.
At Conway-Sandwich, the success was even greater. For the second year in a row, manager Beverly Comeau’s office picked up on an idea from their spring home sellers.

“Many homeowners are selling in the spring market, and they don’t want to just throw away perfectly functional items, but they can’t find a place to donate them,” said Comeau. “And the timing sets up perfectly with people trying to decorate and set up vacation homes.”

As a result, these realtors were able to assist sellers, buyers and local charities in need of donations at a time of year when they really need it. Conway-Sandwich raised $1,050 and presented their donations to the Sandwich Food Pantry and the Sandwich Council on Aging. The money will go to purchasing food and helping seniors cope with the rising costs of living.

Hull– Agents and managers from Jack Conway Realtors ushered in the summer by recognizing the return of Mark Abatuno to the Hull office.

After a two-year stint as manager of Conway-Norwell, Abatuno returned to his hometown to focus on sales and spend more time with his family.

“I enjoyed my time in Norwell and it was a new challenge at the time,” said Abatuno to the more than 50 friends and realtors assembled. “But Hull is where I really belong and I am doing what I love to do, where I love to do it.”

Chairman Jack Conway raised a glass in toast to Abatuno, and said he appreciated his answering when the call when out for a manager in Norwell.

“Mark did a great job for us,” said Conway. “And we know he’ll continue to do great things here in Hull, his hometown.”

Mike Travers of Conway-Bridgewater was recently selected by the Tri-County Board of Realtors as its Realtor of the Year for 2008.

Bridgewater – Jack Conway Realtors Bridgewater agent Mike Travers was recently selected by the Tri-County Board of Realtors as its Realtor of the Year for 2008. Realtor of the Year is the highest honor the board bestows upon one of its members.

“I am just honored and thrilled,” said Travers, a longtime resident of East Bridgewater and the former president of the Tri-County Board. “This is an excellent organization, and Conway is a great company. I am proud to serve both, and I enjoy doing it.”

Now in it’s 83rd year, the Tri-County Board currently has members in 36 towns, consisting of parts of Norfolk, Plymouth and Bristol counties.

The award is presented annually to a realtor, nominated by his peers, then selected by the Realtor of the Year Committee, which is an impartial panel made up of past Realtors of the Year. The committee takes into consideration the member’s involvement in civic affairs and participation in local, state and national committees. They also consider the member’s spirit and business accomplishments.

And when it comes to involvement, Travers has the credentials. He has held numerous positions with the Tri-County Board, and served as the Massachusetts Association of Realtors Regional Vice-President and on its executive committee.

For years he has worked with the American Red Cross, as their community liaison to East Bridgewater, and sits on the board of the Kiwanis. He is also a member of the town’s Community Response Team, and its business association.

“The type of work Mike does is vital in the community,” said company Chairman Jack Conway. “It’s that kind of reaching out and extending the helping hand, which truly exemplifies community involvement.”

Travers came to Conway in 1999, after more than 20 years as a home improvement contractor, and combines that experience with his commitment to the ethics he supports in his work with the association.

“My knowledge of contracting, and the personal need I have for continuing education gives me the opportunity to offer customers the best and most useful skills and knowledge,” said Travers. “I also hold myself to the highest level of ethical standards and hold others to that standard when representing my clients.”
