The Conway School of Real Estates latest continuing-education courses for real estate licensees include evening classes designed for those agents who prefer to attend programs after traditional business hours.

The courses are open to all of the state’s licensed real estate agentswhether active or inactive – and will help satisfy the state’s continuing-education requirements for license renewal.

Jack Conway, Realtor recently sponsored and participated in Real Estate Bar Camp Boston 2011. The unique technology seminar drew hundreds of local real estate professionals to the Back Bay Events Center for day-long learning and networking. Several Conway agents and members of the management team joined the event.

“We were so excited to be a part of this, and proud to be a sponsor,” said Conway Regional Manager Peter Ruffini. “It was a chance to learn and hear from some really knowledgeable and innovative people in the industry.”

The concept for RE BarCamp came from a technology BarCamp event held in San Francisco. Wikipedia defines a barcamp as: an international network of user generated conferences — open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants. Every session is not planned out in advance. Nobody is paid to deliver a session. Anybody can deliver a session and attendees are strongly encouraged to participate.

While driving around the community of Southfield you’ll notice something that may seem a bit out of the ordinary for most towns –a large plane on display next door to the town’s Welcome Center. Over the past 50 years the area now known as Southfield has been home to over 80 different types of aircraft. Until 1997, this area was the South Weymouth Naval Air Station.

Southfield MAHistoric Airbase

The 6 million dollar project to create a Naval Air Base was originally started in 1940. Over 1,000 acres of land within the towns of South Weymouth, Rockland and Abington were acquired by the U.S. Navy to build an airbase for dirigibles (blimps) used to patrol the North Atlantic Ocean during World War II. Although the last operating blimp squadron of the U.S. Navy was disestablished in 1961, the South Weymouth Naval Air Station continued to operate as an important base for New England.

Today, at Shea Field Memorial Grove, located across the street from Southfield’s Welcome Center, features a retired A-4 Skyhawk Navy jet fighter. The plane was dedicated in 2004 to commemorate the Base’s 55+ years of service to the Navy and New England.

Conway Commercial, a divisiDavid Ellis Jack Conwayon of the Jack Conway Real Estate Company, recently welcomed David Ellis to its growing sales team. Ellis will work out of the Conway-Quincy office concentrating on the sale and leasing of retail, office, industrial and investment properties. He left his post as a commercial sales agent in the Plymouth area to join the Conway group in July.

“We’re excited about the major commercial developments planned for Quincy and Weymouth,” said Paul Durgin, vice-president of Conway Commercial. “Dave will help us service those and other areas of our marketplace. He has a solid background in commercial sales as well as in construction and financing. I know he’ll be a key player on our team.”

The guest speaker at the award ceremony was Kim Castiglioni, VP and Strategic Alliance Manager for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. She shared her thoughts on the Massachusetts marketplace and offered tips for increasing Realtors’ business in the year ahead. “The opportunities are out there for people to buy a home right now,” said Castiglioni. “We have mortgage interest rates at 40-year lows, and contrary to what some buyers may believe, credit is available. Spread the word, the time to buy is now.”

Before the 6-month top performers were announced, Chairman Jack Conway presented community service certificates to 10 of his associates who had demonstrated the “spirit of giving back” within their local cities and towns. “I’m proud of each of you for the time and talent you have contributed to your communities,” said Conway. “You are a credit to yourselves and to our company.”

Conway Regional VP, Dick Cahill, wound up the Plymouth breakfast with the presentation of mid-year top seller and lister awards to 51 Conway agents from Swampscott to Cape Cod.

Flag Day had extra meaning this year for Jack Conway, Chairman of the 54-year-old Jack Conway & Co. real estate firm. On June 14, Conway received the gift of a U.S. flag from Christopher J. “C.J.” Stevens, a Captain in the 1st Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade stationed in Afghanistan.

Stevens, who is the son of Conway Relocation Director Dawn Stevens of Hanson, recently flew the flag into battle on his Army helicopter in honor of 87-year-old Jack Conway, a WWII Navy veteran. He mailed the flag to his mother who presented it to the chairman of the board on Flag Day.

“Jack has been interested in C.J.’s achievements since he first entered West Point right after high school,” said Dawn Stevens. “Our company has even collected items to send to his crew, and this was my son’s way of thanking him for his support.”

Conway was surprised and honored by the gift from Captain Stevens.

“This flag, which was flown in the battlefields of Afghanistan by a local citizen from Hanson touched me deeply,” he said. “I have always had the utmost respect for the sacrifices made by our young men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to preserve our way of life here in America. I thank C.J. sincerely, and I assure him that this flag will be flown at Conway Country ceremonies for many years to come.”

It’s Been 1 Year Since the Launch of the NEW Jackconway.com!

Agents, managers and staff at Jack Conway, Realtor gathered recently for a rousing celebration of the first anniversary of the company’s Next Generation website jackconway.com. Everyone shared in a piece of birthday cake, decorated with an image of the front page of the website.

Since June 1, 2010, when Conway redesigned and retooled the website, traffic and customer engagement has risen dramatically.

“I think we can all say this has been an unqualified success,” said Conway Marketing Director Al Becker. “And the best part of this website is it can keep getting better and improve as new trends and technologies emerge.”

One recent example of these improvements is the “mapped search” tool that allows buying customers to pinpoint areas where they are looking for homes. Another new development is the mobile optimization of the site, providing service to jackconway.com on the vast majority of mobile devices and tablet PCs.

All of this is taking place because of the hard work of the Conway staff, through its web team at Boston Logic Technology Partners.

We are so pleased with Boston Logic and all they’ve done for us,” said Conway CEO Carol Bulman. “They are an excellent partner and along with our team, we are poised for a bright future.”

Eighteen Jack Conway agents, managers, and leaders – more than any other real estate company in Massachusetts – converged on Beacon Hill this past month as part of Realtor Day on Beacon Hill.

This important annual event allows Realtors the opportunity to meet with their legislators and discuss industry issues of the day. The Conway delegation, led by CEO Carol Bulman and current Massachusetts Association of Realtors Secretary/Treasurer Peter Ruffini of Conway-Marshfield, met with their local legislators, including Rep. Tackey Chan, Rep. Jim Cantwell, Rep. Daniel Webster, Sen. John Keenan, and Sen. Bob Hedlund, among others.

“It’s so important on behalf of our customers and our companies that we take part in this civic activity,” said Bulman. “It was great to see so many friendly faces, and to be a part of a special day.”

Topics on this year’s agenda included fighting transfer taxes, supporting new rules to make it easier to sell municipally-owned vacant property, and a discussion of increasing the number of hours required for Continuing Education.

Participants in the 27th annual Conway Country Charity Golf for the Homeless event at the Easton Country Club last week helped raise more than $15,000.

The event, run by Jack Conway & Co., benefits homeless causes throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. Early thunderstorms didn’t squelch the excitement of the full field of 144 golfers who helped celebrate the event’s 27th year.

“It’s always a great opportunity to help the homeless, and it’s a fun way to do it,” said Chairman Jack Conway as he welcomed the golfers. “And this year was special as we once again passed our fundraising goals and completely sold out.”

For almost three decades, Conway Country golfers have helped raise over $500,000 since the tournament’s inception in 1984, which went directly to shelters like MainSpring House in Brockton, Conway House in Middleboro and Evelyn House in Stoughton.

The winning team for this year’s tourney was Czaba Pasmany, Mark Starrett, Greg Quercia and Kevin Butler, and they shot a 11-under, 60 in the scramble format.
