More than 50 Jack Conway sales champions were honored at a luncheon held recently at the Holiday Inn in Rockland. The agents and managers were presented with awards for top performance in 2012 and acknowledged as members of Conway’s prestigious Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Top Producer Clubs.

Winners were treated to a cocktail reception and buffet luncheon followed by a warm welcome from their President/CEO Carol Bulman and a keynote speech by national real estate coach Matthew Ferrara, who discussed the topics of “business growth, personal development and life balance.”

Bulman acknowledged her top performers for their outstanding efforts during another challenging year in the Massachusetts housing industry.

“Our company is only as successful as our people,” she said. “Last year was not an easy time to work in real estate and yet you excelled, not only for yourselves, but for your buyers and sellers. You are the superstars of Conway Country, and I am so proud of you all.”

Jack Conway & Company, Inc. is making available insights gathered from a white paper issued by the company’s luxury marketing network, Luxury Portfolio International®. Entitled “The Emotional Role of Home,” the paper was created to provide a clearer understanding of today’s high-net-worth Americans to help member real estate professionals best serve this discerning luxury clientele.

Available exclusively to affiliates of Luxury Portfolio, such as Conway, the white paper was created in conjunction with Harrison Group, a YouGov company, and includes select findings from the 2012 Survey of Affluence and Wealth in America, produced by American Express Publishing and Harrison Group, along with information collected exclusively for Luxury Portfolio.

A summary of the white paper is available at www.jackconway.com, under the “Conway Sells the Classics” link. It shares a high level overview of key motivators behind the decisions of today’s luxury home buyers. Additional concepts are also explored, including the emergence of the “Worth Dynamic,” a phenomenon resulting from the Great Recession, where consumers evaluate the true value of a property and its specific details, with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship.

The study uncovers the emotional appeal of home as a base for creating fond memories, housing treasured positions and simply understanding happiness, with home being appreciated as a place of refuge and serenity.

“All of our customers will find this research very interesting,” said Al Becker, Conway’s VP of Marketing. “And it’s this type of information that sets us apart a brokerage to market luxury properties.”

“We were intrigued by what our research unveiled about the emotional appeal of home, particularly as it relates to high-net-worth Americans,” said Stephanie Pfeffer, executive vice president of Luxury Portfolio. “The intelligence gathered will be incredibly useful to our members, who, as leaders in the luxury real estate market, are continuously looking for ways to effectively serve buyers and sellers of high-end properties.”

Luxury Portfolio International® is the luxury face of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®, the largest global network of premier locally branded companies dominated by many of the world’s most powerful independent luxury brokerages.

CONWAY CEO BULMAN NAMED TRUSTEE AT BRIDGEWATER UNIVERSITYNorwell-based Jack Conway, Realtor announced that Governor Deval Patrick has appointed Conway President/CEO Carol Bulman to a 4-year term on the Board of Trustees at Bridgewater State University (BSU). The Governor congratulated Bulman in a recent letter notifying her of the appointment.

“Lieutenant Governor Murray and I appreciate your willingness to serve the Commonwealth in this capacity,” said Patrick. “Your experience and sound judgment will contribute substantially to the Board. I wish you great success as we move forward.”

Bulman and Jack Conway Co. have always had close ties with the university. BSU President Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria is a former Conway Country Citizen of the Year, Bulman was the keynote speaker at the 2012 commencement ceremony of the University’s graduate students, and her daughter Corie Bulman Nagle is a master’s degree candidate at the school.

“I’m honored to serve on the BSU Board of Trustees,” said Bulman. “This university is constantly expanding its programs and opportunities for the more than 11,000 students who go there. I am proud to work with a group that will help further its goals and mission. It’s wonderful to have such a progressive education institution right here in our own backyard.”

A Scituate mother of four, Bulman is a graduate of Providence College and the National Mortgage Bankers School in Chicago. She is a past president of the Massachusetts Mortgage Association and serves on the Executive Committees for the South Shore Hospital Foundation Board and the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. She also served as a member of the BSU Foundation.  She is also a member of the Operating Committee of New England Mortgage Professionals, Conway’s financial arm in partnership with PNC Bank.

Christmas will be a little brighter for needy children in S.E. Mass. this year thanks to the efforts of a young woman who has been bringing gifts to families in local homeless shelters for the last 12 years. Corie Bulman Nagle, granddaughter of the late Jack Conway, founder of Jack Conway Real Estate Co., has been running a “Holiday Hope For the Homeless” drive since she was an eighth grade student in the Scituate Public Schools. Now a Marshfield High School teacher and part-time Conway real estate agent, she continues to work with Father Bill & MainSpring shelters to compile lists of children and families every year and identify their Christmas wishes.

“Corie has giving in her genes,” said her mother, Conway CEO Carol Bulman. “She puts a tremendous amount of work into her annual gift drives, and the families who benefit from them are extremely grateful. I’m very proud of her and of all the people in our company who step up to the plate to help her.”

Nagle conducted her first Hope for the Homeless Drive shortly after a new Middleboro family shelter was named in honor of her grandparents, Jack and Patti Conway in 1998. “I visited ‘Conway House’ with my Mom, and saw all the mothers there with little children,” said Nagle. “I just wanted to do something to help them have a good Christmas. “Since that day, we have delivered 20,000 gifts to nearly 1,000 children in homeless shelters. I want to thank everyone who helped to make that happen.”

Conway real estate agent bakes for a good cause in Scituate.

Jack Conway-Scituate’s recent Heritage Days bake sale raised nearly $500 for the Shawn Sandborn Benefit Fund. Sandborn, a local youth who is battling a brain tumor, is in need of a seizure-detecting therapy dog as well as expenses for traveling to and from a state facility where he will learn how to handle and train the dog.

Conway agents spent the nights before Heritage days baking, frosting and wrapping the cakes, cookies, brownies and breads they had made for the fundraiser. “The bake sale is an annual tradition for our office,” said Realtor Barbara Cox. “Some of us are better cooks than others, but our inventory is always sold out within a couple of hours.”

This year’s Jack Conway booth featured stacks of homemade pastries, along with a raffle basket donated by three local sponsors – Dunkin Donuts, the Lucky Finn Schooner Co. and Bulman Marine. “We thank the businesses who supported our efforts,” said Conway Scituate Manager Elaine Bongarzone. “We had some great prizes in the basket like schooner tickets, kayak rentals, and a lot of other goods and services. The raffle tickets sold themselves.”

Each year Jack Conway’s Scituate office contributes the proceeds from its Heritage Days bake sale to a local cause selected by the agents in the office. Previous recipients have included such groups as South Shore Hospice, the Scituate Senior Center, the Etrusco organization, and the Cancer Support Community of the South Shore.

“We selected the Shawn Sandborn fund this year because our hearts go out to Shawn and his family during this difficult time in their lives,” said Bongarzone. “It was a unanimous decision.”

Village at Duxbury visit.

The Conway team recently visited the Village at Duxbury for a broker’s tour.

A recent broker’s open house held at the Village at Duxbury, a senior living community for people aged 62 and over, had a definite “Conway Country” feel. Jack Conway CEO Carol Bulman and 31 of her sales agents were among the 48 Realtors who attended the luncheon and guided tour hosted by Luke Kramer, director of sales and marketing for the Village. Tucked into a residential neighborhood in Duxbury, the community offers cooperative home ownership, and the Conway Company was selected as a “Preferred Realtor” for prospective residents who have houses to sell.

Brokers at the open house enjoyed a sumptuous lunch and then toured several of the apartments and garden homes that are currently on the market. Seniors may “purchase” residences by buying shares in the Village’s cooperative corporation. Share prices for the spacious duplex-style garden homes range from $550,000 to $615,000 and apartments are priced from $169,900 to $475,000. The Village campus is also a “continuing care retirement community” with assisted living and skilled nursing and health care services available on site or in close proximity to the campus.

“I’m delighted that our company is one of the few Realtors chosen by the Village of Duxbury to meet the real estate needs of its residents,” said Bulman. “We have a very active Senior Specialist Division consisting of top Conway agents who have been trained to meet the specific needs of seniors aged 55 and over. That makes us uniquely qualified to service this adult community.”

Dawn Stevens, director of Jack Conway’s Relocation Division, has already received a referral from the Village at Duxbury that she has passed on to one of her senior specialists. “After touring the campus and all of its amenities, our agents got an up-close and personal look at this wonderful community and we’re eager to help people enter this new phase of their lives.

For more information about the Village at Duxbury, contact Dawn Stevens at 800-283-1030 or email dstevens@jackconway.com.

Participants in the 28th annual Conway Country Charity Golf for the Homeless event at the Easton Country Club helped raise more than $15,000.

The event, run by Jack Conway & Co., benefits homeless causes throughout Southeastern Massachusetts. A damp start didn’t cloud the excitement of the full field of 144 golfers who helped celebrate the event’s 28th year. By the time golfers were on their third hole, the sun was out and course was in superb condition.

“This tournament is so special because we have some people who have been here every year we’ve run it,” said Conway Regional VP Denis Lilla as he welcomed the golfers. “And once again this year we’ve surpassed our fundraising goals and had a lot of fun doing it.

For almost three decades, Conway Country golfers have helped raise over $500,000 since the tournament’s inception in 1984, which went directly to shelters like MainSpring House in Brockton, Conway House in Middleboro and Evelyn House in Stoughton.

The winning team for this year’s tourney was Bill Bridge, Matt Vaughn Brian Reid and Adam Rubin, and they shot a 10-under, 61 in the scramble format. Rubin also won the closest to the pin contest. Tony Lilla won long drive contest for the men, with Tara O’Donnell winning the long drive prize on the ladies side.

Jack Conway’s years of dedicated involvement with South Shore Hospital, both personally and by his firm, were celebrated at the recent Luminaria evening at the Boston Marriot Quincy.

Jack Conway awarded for Community Service at South Shore Hospital Luminaria Fundraiser

Chairman Jack Conway stands and waves to the crowd at the South Shore Hospital’s Luminaria event after being honored with a gold medal.

Crystal goblets, sparkling chandeliers and a sumptuous surf and turf dinner were on the agenda as the founder of the 56-year old Jack Conway Real Estate firm, took home “the gold.” Conway was one of four honorees to receive gold medals recognizing their contributions in “lighting the path” for health care in Southeastern Massachusetts.

The fundraising gala celebrated the 100th anniversary of the hospital’s home care division, which includes visiting nurse, hospice, and private duty home health services. Receiving the Luminaria awards along with Conway were Victoria Kennedy, attorney and health care advocate and widow of Sen. Ted Kennedy, Dr. David Halle, MD, associate director of the South Shore Medical Center, and Frank Lagroteria, Sr., who was honored posthumously for his community involvement.

Conway, 88, a longtime South Shore Hospital Trustee, accepted his gold medal proudly as it was slipped over his head on the ballroom stage.

“My father is a worthy recipient of this honor,” said Conway CEO Carol Bulman, who co-chaired the event. “Over the years, he has played a leadership role in planning and supporting hospital initiatives and he is a huge advocate of hospice and home health services. My Dad has received outstanding care at the South Shore Hospital as have many of our Conway Country employees. We are so lucky to have this wonderful facility right in our own backyard.”

Co-founder Wilma Goodhue (left) hosted a group of Jack Conway Realtors at a tour of the Friendship Home in Norwell.

A group of Jack Conway Realtors recently enjoyed lunch and a tour of the newly expanded Friendship Home in Norwell. The meal was prepared and served by clients at the facility, which provides education, recreation and short-term respite care to people with developmental disabilities.

“We were invited to the luncheon by Linda Malone, the director of fundraising and public relations for the Friendship Home,” said Conway agent Kristen Morse. “Linda asked us to come in and tour their new upstairs respite unit, which includes five bedrooms, a great room, a computer area and a fully equipped kitchen. Clients will now be able to stay overnight for up to two weeks while their family members or caregivers are away.  This is a wonderful service for everyone involved.”

Friendship Home Program Director Laurel Hickey was happy that the Conway group had a chance to visit her building .“We invite the public and community partners to dine at our ‘Friends-4-Ever’ Café, which is entirely run by our clients,” said Hickey. “These guys shop for, cook and serve the meals and handle all the planning from soup to nuts. They do a fabulous job.”

Conway CEO Carol Bulman attended the luncheon along with eight of her colleagues: Elaine Bongarzone, Susan Conway, Liz Charlton, Paul Durgin, Helen Jablonski, Bryan Keaney, Brian McCormick, Kristen Morse, and Dick Stevens. “The Friendship Home is an amazing place,” said Bulman. “Every time I’ve had the opportunity to visit there, the members have filled my heart. They are so kind, open and welcoming. I feel privileged to be in the company of these good people.”

Friendship Home co-founders Wilma Goodhue and Joan Mullare, both parents of adult children with developmental disabilities, have served as advocates for the disabled since 1999. Their dream was to establish a facility where clients could socialize, learn life and work skills, and obtain jobs through a network of community partners. After 10 years of fundraising and hard work, the women saw their dream become a reality when Friendship Home opened in 2010 on one acre of land leased to them for 100 years by the United Church of Christ in Norwell. More than 840 guests recently attended the group’s annual fundraising gala, held at Lombardos in Randolph.
