Flag Day had extra meaning this year for Jack Conway, Chairman of the 54-year-old Jack Conway & Co. real estate firm. On June 14, Conway received the gift of a U.S. flag from Christopher J. “C.J.” Stevens, a Captain in the 1st Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade stationed in Afghanistan.

Stevens, who is the son of Conway Relocation Director Dawn Stevens of Hanson, recently flew the flag into battle on his Army helicopter in honor of 87-year-old Jack Conway, a WWII Navy veteran. He mailed the flag to his mother who presented it to the chairman of the board on Flag Day.

“Jack has been interested in C.J.’s achievements since he first entered West Point right after high school,” said Dawn Stevens. “Our company has even collected items to send to his crew, and this was my son’s way of thanking him for his support.”

Conway was surprised and honored by the gift from Captain Stevens.

“This flag, which was flown in the battlefields of Afghanistan by a local citizen from Hanson touched me deeply,” he said. “I have always had the utmost respect for the sacrifices made by our young men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to preserve our way of life here in America. I thank C.J. sincerely, and I assure him that this flag will be flown at Conway Country ceremonies for many years to come.”
