Patti Conway, wife of company founder Jack Conway, presents a stock certificate representing full ownership in the company, to her daughter, CEO Carol Conway Bulman.

More than 250 Jack Conway agents, managers and staff gathered in the festive ballroom of the Plymouth Radisson Hotel for the annual Conway Country Thanksgiving breakfast.

The blockbuster surprise of the event was a presentation by founder Jack Conway’s wife Patti Conway, during which she transferred 100% ownership of the 56-year-old real estate company to her daughter, Carol Conway Bulman, the firm’s CEO since December of 2010.

Taking the microphone, Mrs. Conway said, “Carol, your father was so proud of your achievements as CEO during these last few turbulent years in our industry. As you know, I’m not fond of public speaking, but I promised your dad that I would make this presentation to you publicly.”

As Conway handed her daughter a stock certificate transferring full ownership of the Jack Conway Real Estate Company, the crowd erupted with a standing ovation.

Bulman pledged to honor her father’s legacy and to keep the organization new, expanding, and customer-driven to meet the needs of present and future homeowners.

“I ask you all to join me in preserving the phenomenal work of art that Jack Conway created and nurtured for so many years,” said Bulman. “Our company has a solid foundation, carved by a master sculptor, and it’s our job now to build upon it, while ensuring that it remains steady and forever firm.”

The Conway Thanksgiving breakfast also included an address from John Yazwinksi, president and CEO of Father Bill’s & MainSpring, and the presentation of 40 Conway “Spirit Awards” to agents in offices from Boston to Cape Cod.

Matt Ferrara presenting to Conway Agent

Matt Ferrara Visits Norwell Office

The Jack Conway training center in Norwell was jam-packed last week as the management team spent the day with highly-acclaimed real estate trainer Matt Ferrara.

Ferrara worked with managers on strategies for building market share through selecting new agents and developing the current sales force.

“An organization like this is doing it correctly,” said Ferrara as he spoke with the 40-plus managers on the leadership team. “But looking at these important issues from a different angle brings the kind of diversity and strength that you need to build on the success Conway has had for so many years.”

Ferrara  has worked all over the world  training real estate agents, teachers, technology entrepreneurs and global sales organizations. Like he did at Conway, Ferrara prepares his clients for the challenges of the next generation of consumers, markets and technologies.

“We’ve been focused so much on growth internally and externally, and we felt this was something worthwhile to help our management team,” said Conway CEO Carol Bulman. “Matt really helped us focus on our future efforts, and it was a refreshing experience.”

Boston Business Journal Recognized Jack Conway & Company

When the Jack Conway & Company name was announced as the No. 16 company on The Boston Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in Massachusetts list last week, an enthusiastic crowd cheered the name so familiar to generations of homeowners in Eastern Massachusetts. This is the second year in a row Jack Conway has been recognized.

“Conway employees cherish the open door policy set forth by its founder, Jack Conway,” said Kip Hollister, founder and CEO of Hollister Staffing, who presented the awards in the large business category. “It’s no secret they love where they work, and who the company they work for.”

Jack Conway & Company, Inc. was the only locally-based real estate company named to the list in the BBJ’s 10th annual regional awards program. And it’s the second consecutive year Conway was recognized for achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, working conditions and company culture.

Conway was one of more than 400 companies to qualify for consideration based on a two-stage nomination process and the results of employee-satisfaction surveys.

We are so proud of this honor because it comes as a direct result of our team’s satisfaction,” said Conway CEO Carol Bulman. “Our agents, managers and staff members are so important to us. Without them, nothing is possible.”

“Best Places to Work recognizes how important company culture can be as a competitive advantage,” said Chris McIntosh, publisher of the Boston Business Journal. “For most employees, it’s not about the money. It’s about the culture and spirit of the place where they work.”

The top 25 companies in three size categories — Conway is in the largest (more than 500 employees) — were honored last week during a breakfast at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Conway was in a group of well-known companies including Microsoft, Comcast and Digitas.

Jack Conway & Co. is celebrating its 56th anniversary with 40 sales offices from the North Shore to Boston, Cape Cod and the South Coast. The company also operates New England Mortgage Partners as a joint venture with Wells Fargo.

Brigadier General Thomas J. Sellars (center) was honored by Chairman Jack Conway and CEO Carol Bulman at the 25th annual Conway Country convention

Brigadier General Thomas J. Sellars, newly retired Commander of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, was honored as the Conway Country 2011 Citizen of the Year at Jack Conway Realtor’s annual convention held last week at the Quincy Marriott Hotel. The General accepted his award on behalf of the 6,400 troops he had led in Iraq, Afghanistan, and here in the Commonwealth. He then switched roles and unexpectedly presented Chairman Jack Conway with the Department of the Army’s “Commander’s Award for Public Service.”

“I’m honored to be recognized by a company that has given back so much to the community and has helped generations of Massachusetts citizens to become homeowners,” said Sellars. “There is a difference between a business and an institution. An institution has its own personality – its own history, and it serves all of us. The Jack Conway institution is something I’m proud to be a part of, and if a man is known by the company he keeps, then I’m feeling pretty good today.”

U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel James Sahady, who accompanied Sellars to the ceremony, presented the Commander’s Award to Jack Conway as CEO Carol Bulman and hundreds of Conway Country associates rose to their feet waving a sea of American flags hailing both their founder and their citizen of the year.

A Brockton native and graduate of the Stoughton Public Schools, Brig. Gen. Tom Sellars and his wife Nancy live in Randolph. He retired from his 37-year career in the Massachusetts National Guard in September shortly before the last U.S. soldier returned from the war.
