Moving Checklist  Moving to Massachusetts

Following is a helpful checklist that should come in handy as you ready for your move.

Send change of address to:
 Provide forwarding address to post office, charge accounts, credit cards
 Send new contact information and address to friends and relatives
 Bank: Transfer funds, arrange account in new town/city
 Insurance: Provide information on new location for coverages; Life, health, fire, auto
 Automobile registrations: Transfer driver's license; arrange for new registration
 Utility companies: Request refund of any deposits; arrange utilities in new town
Cancel newspaper subscription
 School records: Request copies of transfer of children's records
Transfer medical, dental, eyeglass prescription histories 
Church, club, and civic organizations; Transfer memberships; obtain letter of introduction
Pets: Ask about regulations for licenses, vaccinations, tags; arrange for new veterinarian; transfer records

Don't forget to:
Empty freezer; plan use of foods
Defrost freezer-refrigerator: Place charcoal to dispel odors
Have appliances serviced for moving

Call Cable Company and/or leave remote antenna equipment.
Clean rugs or clothing before moving: Have them moving-wrapped.
With your moving counselor, check insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, arrival day, shipping papers, method and time of expected payment.
Plan for special care needs of infants and pets

On Moving Day:
Carry currency, jewelry, and documents yourself or use registered mail
Plan for transporting pets; they are poor traveling companions if unhappy
Carry traveler's checks for quick, available funds
Let close friends and relatives know route and schedule you will travel including overnight stops
Double check closets, drawers, and shelves to be sure they are empty
Leave all old keys needed by the new homeowner or tenant with the owner or the Realtor
