The City of Quincy reflects a comfortable blend of residential neighborhoods and commercial developments. Located nine miles south of Boston and directly on the MBTA Red Line, it offers a convenient 20-minute commute by bus, rail, boat, or car. Quincy has a scenic shoreline and offers all the amenities and public services of a large city.

Known as the “City of Presidents,” the community was the birthplace of the second and sixth U.S. Presidents – John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams. John Hancock, the first American statesman to sign the Declaration of Independence, was also born there. It was originally a section of Braintree but became a separate town in 1792 and was later incorporated as a city taking its name from Colonel John Quincy, grandfather of First Lady Abigail Adams.

Quincy evolved from an agricultural area in the early years into the site of major granite and shipbuilding industries for centuries. The city’s granite was used to construct the Bunker Hill Monument, and workers at the Fore River Shipyard, the current site of the U.S. Naval Shipbuilding Museum and the USS Salem, built vessels ranging from 7-masted schooners to the giant aircraft carrier USS Lexington.

Quincy’s architecture reflects an easy mix of old and new with Colonial era churches and meeting halls mingling with the luxury condominiums, fine restaurants, and boutiques of communities like Marina Bay. Sightseeing trolleys bring passengers on tours of the community’s many historic sites, and Quincy Center is experiencing a rebirth with plans underway for major new development.

The city has its own public school system, a number of private schools, plus two institutes of higher learning – Eastern Nazarene College and Quincy College. Residents of Quincy enjoy numerous neighborhood events, including an annual August Moon Festival and the giant Quincy Christmas Parade, which is among the largest holiday parades in the nation.
