The small-town flavor of Scituate remains today, despite recent luxury subdivision and condominium developments within the harbor and other sections of the town. The commuter rail has two stops in Scituate and provides a convenient commute into Boston for work and recreation.
Scituate's beautiful beaches are private for town residents, and historic sites include the Lawson Tower, the Little Red Schoolhouse, the Old Oaken Bucket Homestead, and the famous Scituate Lighthouse. All of these landmarks are open for public tours on specified days throughout the year. The annual August Heritage Days celebration brings vendors, musicians, artists and craftsman to the Harbor district to showcase their wares and talents. A summer carnival also comes to town annually in mid-July and ends with a damatic fireworks display.
Scituate's population increases in the summer months when vacationers enjoy the sun and sands of a resort area that is located at a mid-point between Boston and Plymouth without the traffic of the Cape Cod bridges.
